Council On Aging

The Henry County Council on Aging is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization made up of nineteen (19) volunteers who serve as directors. Directors are selected by each District's commissioner and City Council members. The council's primary objective is to support programs that serve Henry County senior citizens. Supported programs include Meal-on-Wheels, Nutrition Supplements, In-Homes Services, Senior Centers, and Volunteer Activities. The council members serve as advocates on behalf of the senior citizens of Henry County.

The Council’s primary fundraising event is the Miles-for-Meals Campaign which is held annually on the first Saturday in May.

YOU ARE INVITED!
TRAVEL     MEETING
July 19, 2019     2:00PM     Heritage Senior Center, McDonough, GA 30252
Would love to see you if you live close by and are in town!

Including the Senior Spirit article from the Henry County Times seemed to work back in May when I sent the last newsletter.  I’m trying it again!  I am not going to attach any of the trips, but am hoping that you will email me for more information on the trips in which you are interested.

The Normandy and D-Day Beaches trip in May exceeded all our expectations!  Not a one of us was not moved and proud to be an American.  It was special being there for the 75th Anniversary.  We continue our 2019 trips to the Mississippi River in July and California’s National Parks in September.

For those of you that don’t like to fly, we have you covered with two new motorcoach trips.  Each more exciting than the other!  Washington DC – an experience of a lifetime! The Lancaster Trip & Dutch Country trip has a waiting list.  Even if you’ve been to the Ark and Creation Museum, we appreciate you encouraging other to see what it’s all about.  Referrals are very important to us.

For those of you that are getting this email as part of Traveling Teachers (GREA), there is our First Annual GREA cruise in January.  If you are interested in more information, please get in contact with Melodi Moore, melodi.travel@bellsouth.net or 678-814-3555.  If you can’t go this year, be thinking about our Second Annual cruise next year.

Most of you have been introduced to Melodi Moore by now.  If you haven’t she is an absolute gem of an addition to Traveling Teachers and Prime Time Adventurers.  She is a retired educator and has been with me in the travel business since 2002.  Also working with us is Debbie Brown, another retired educator and a certified Disney expert.  We are here for you if you have any travel needs apart from these group trips.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the most popular motor coach tours this year is the ARK ENCOUNTER & CREATION MUSEUM, in Kentucky.  A must see.  The four day trip is from October 7 – 10, 2019.  The Ark Encounter features a full-size Noah’s Ark, built according to the dimensions given in the Bible. The Creation Museum shows why God’s infallible Word, rather than man’s faulty assumptions, is the place to begin if we want to make sense of our world.
WASHINGTON, DC – OUR NATION’S CAPITAL, April 16 – 22, 2020.  This experience introduces you to awe-inspiring sights all around town that represent our nation, memorials, museums, the poignant and inspirational sights at Arlington National Cemetery, and much, much more.  If you have not been to Washington, DC or it has been a while, you owe yourself this trip.
The roots of your faith will come to life on this extraordinary journey through the HOLY LAND & ISRAEL, February 18 – 27, 2020.  Experience the power of scripture as it comes to life with memorable visits to Nazareth, Bethlehem, the Sea of Galilee, and Jerusalem.  Get inspired as you re-live some of the New Testament’s stories in their original settings.  All of this – and much more – await you on a deeply spiritual vacation of a lifetime!
ALASKA CRUISE & TOUR, June 8 – 18, 2020.  Enjoy an 11-night cruise/tour with ample opportunity to take in Alaska’s awe-inspiring glaciers and majestic scenery.  Explore the remote and rugged beauty of areas such as Glacier Bay, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, the Inside Passage, Denali National Park and Fairbanks.  Much to see and do.
As usual, I am looking ahead to the latter half of 2020 and beginning of 2021.  Two completely different trips. THE BEST OF SWITZERLAND August 5 – 13, 2020, brings you up close and personal to some of the most magnificent scenery in the world!  There is a drive through the high Alps to the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein.  Board a mountain train to the picturesque clutter of rustic chalets beneath the famous Matterhorn.  Of course, it is known for its chocolates, and you will taste traditional chocolate pralines at a famous confectionery!
For a change of pace CRUISING HAWAII’S PARADISE!!, February 18 – 28, 2021, lets you experience the breathtaking scenery of 4 Hawaiian islands, along with Pearl Harbor and much, much  more.  Maui has been voted the best island in the world.  The Big Island of Hawaii offers black-sand beaches, curious lava formation, the world’s most continuously active volcano, fields of coffee and macadamia nuts, and more.  Kauai, the oldest island, offers cascading waterfalls, golden beaches, tropical rainforests and more.  Along with cruising, you will spend three nights on Waikiki Beach, with touring and free time.  Grab your camera, pack your swimsuit, and be prepared to relax, renew your spirit and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere in paradise!
If you are interested in more information on these and other planned trips, please contact Nancy Hall at 770-898-8860, primeteacher@bellsouth.net or Melodi Moore, melodi.travel@bellsouth.net.  As always, all of the trips are escorted by Nancy Hall and Melodi Moore.  Passing this information on to friends and family is appreciated.  Happy Traveling!
Please contact Nancy Hall at 770-898-8860, for more information.
Volunteer Services
Have some spare time on your hands?
Senior Services can help you fill it
Many homebound Senior Adults in Henry County can no longer prepare their own meals and would really appreciate someone delivering one to them. In one hour or less you could be that someone.
It only takes an hour to give back to our Senior Adults.  If you’d rather help in another way – give us a call – we have other volunteer opportunities!
