Henry County Citizen’s Academy (HCCA)

The Henry County Citizen’s Academy is a free program that is designed to help inform and improve participants’ knowledge about day-to-day operations throughout the county government. Each week, participants will meet for approximately two hours to get a hands on look at how services from areas such as Financial Services, Administrative Support, Public Works, and Public Safety within Henry County are provided.

Ultimately, the goal of the academy is to help citizens to better understand the functions of the government in their community and to help develop a stronger connection within the community as a whole.

Throughout the program, participants are encouraged to ask questions, which will help promote an open line of communication between the community and the government. Citizens also are encouraged to become more involved in local community events, and the academy hopes to help citizens make informed decisions with regards to their government.

The upcoming citizen’s academy will be held Tuesday evenings, starting on August 6, 2019 and running through September 17, 2019. Participants will be recognized at our last class at the Board of Commission meeting. Classes will be held at the county administration building located at 140 Henry Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253; however, some classes may be held partially or fully off-site at another county facility. On these evenings, transportation from the administration building will be provided. Please note that the class size is limited to 25 participants.

The requirements for the academy are as follows:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must live or work in Henry County
  • Must be clear of any prior felony arrests
  • Must be clear of any misdemeanor arrests within 6 months of the application

The deadline to submit applications and consent forms is July 17, 2019. Applications must be received by this date, not postmarked on this date.

The first 25 eligible candidates selected for the academy will be notified accordingly. Candidates will be selected on a ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis. Any applicant not selected will need to re-apply in the future for any future class.
