Youth Leadership Academy
The Henry County Police Department is offering a one day program to qualified high school students from ages 14 through 18, who have demonstrated above average academic standards (2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale) as well as good citizenship, the opportunity to participate in a one day program of leadership development at the Henry County Police Department Headquarters.
The Youth Leadership Program is part of the Henry County Police Community Outreach Program. Topics would include an overview of the Henry County Police department, Internet Safety, Tour of the Henry County Police Department, Gangs, K-9 Demonstration, Traffic Safety, Firearms Safety and Simulator, SWAT Demonstration, Crime Scene Analysis, and more. The topics will be taught by Henry County Police Department staff members who are currently working in these fields.
Although the program is not limited to young persons interested in a future career in law enforcement, interested candidates should possess a desire to gain knowledge of the criminal justice, police organization and its functions, criminal law, as well as leadership skills and personal development. Upon successful completion of the program the graduates will receive a t-shirt and certificate.
The program will take place at the Henry County Police Headquarters training room. The only fees associated with this program are a $5.00 lunch cost. Lunch will be held at the Henry County Police Headquarters training room. Lunch will be pizza or a Chick-fil-a meal. No student will be allowed to leave once the program begins.
To participate in the Youth Leadership Program, the candidate will submit an application with all the required signatures, complete an essay on “Why they wish to attend the Leadership Program”, and must have a 2.7 G.P.A. verified by their school counselor.
The program is open to male and female students. Qualified young people are encouraged to complete the application and essay and return it to the address provided.
