Another successful Fire Prevention Week will officially wrap up on Saturday, October 13th. However Henry County Fire Department considers the entire month of October “Fire Safety Month” and we will continue with several Fire Safety Education events through the end of the month. At the end of this week, nearly 1500 Henry County children and adults will have had contact with representatives from Henry County Fire Department teaching and encouraging Fire Safety and “Having Two Ways Out” of their home, in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week 2012. Although the focus is on keeping our community safe and preventing burn injury, this year’s theme will ultimately support the “Everyone Goes Home” campaign as well, preventing firefighter fatalities, as a result of entering burning buildings where citizens did not have and practice an escape plan. We know, in the fire service, we will never be able to prevent all structure fires, but if we can prevent fire fatalities to citizens as well as firefighters, from simple teachings and working together, we have made a step in the right direction! Without the firefighters out there in the field teaching, fire safety education would not reach as many citizens as it does. In a recent statement, Chief Lacy thanked everyone saying, “Thank you for all the hard work you have been doing in providing Fire Safety Education to our Community during Fire Prevention Month.” “Although as individuals, we don't always believe it, we can make a difference and Henry County Fire Department will continue to try through Fire and Life Safety Education and Prevention,” stated Captain Sabrina Puckett.
