Henry County Fire Department to Hosts 11th Annual "Live" Ammonia Release Drill | |
On September 24, 25, & 26th, Henry County Fire Department will host the Atlanta “Live” Ammonia Release Drill & Hazmat Training Exercise. The classroom portion will be facilitated at two training locations; south of Atlanta will be at Heritage Park in Henry County and north of Atlanta will be at the Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center. The 3rd day of training will cumulate with the live release of anhydrous ammonia exercises at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 26, 2012.
This exercise will be the eleventh year the training has been conducted and the fifth consecutive year this event has been hosted by Henry County Fire Department. The training includes industry, firefighters, and hazmat teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana. The training will be presented by David Binder from Tanner Industries, a national supplier and distributor of anhydrous ammonia, and Jack Johnson from PM Hazmat Training and Consulting Company. Binder and Johnson are recognized as premier trainers in regards to ammonia emergency response.
Having cold storage facilities as part of our county’s industry, it is imperative that emergency personnel and industrial personnel are prepared to work as a team to mitigate an emergency ammonia release. Quality training and teamwork practice drills will create a more unified response team. The benefits of prior training will prevail in the event there is an emergency ammonia release.
Media are not only welcome but urged to attend. Please R.S.V.P to Captain Sabrina Puckett @ 770-288-6619 or 678-409-0574 if your agency plans to attend. Thank you.
