Paramedic National Registry Practical Examination Hosted By Henry County Fire Department Twenty-Nine Henry County Firefighters Recently Graduating Paramedic Class Tested On Saturday, June 23, 2012, Henry County Fire Department (HCFD) Fire and EMS Academy Paramedic Program hosted the Paramedic National Registry Practical Examination. The testing was held in McDonough at the Fire and EMS Academy Facility on Industrial Boulevard, where twenty nine students recently completed the HCFD Paramedic Program. Class concluded on June 13, 2012 and all twenty-nine participated in the National Examination this weekend.
This last graduating class made HCFD Paramedic Instructor Amy McCullough’s thirteenth Paramedic Class to instruct. She has taught approximately 350 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) the skills necessary to perform at the level of Paramedic and all while she has continued her education as well. At the conclusion of the thirteen month course, the class average was a 92.6. Students are currently completing necessary testing for certification. The HCFD Paramedic Program is open to HCFD personnel as well as to Emergency Medical Technicians outside of the department seeking paramedic certification. This weekend thirty-seven students participated in the testing at HCFD; twenty-nine of them were HCFD firefighter EMT’s. The students performed a total of 375 skills.
“Yes, the students have graduated, but the learning has just begun. In this profession you must continue to learn from your preceptors, mentors, your patients and other healthcare providers such as doctors and nurses. The journey never ends,” stated Paramedic Instructor Amy McCullough.

Prior to the 1970’s, a national certification standard for emergency medical care did not exist. The NREMT has certified over one million EMS providers since its inception. 270,000 are Nationally Certified at the current time.
