Henry County Police and Operation Rolling Thunder Storm Henry County Roads Over Weekend

The Henry County Police Department’s Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) Unit was out in full force last weekend for Operation Rolling Thunder.  Simultaneous roadblocks were set up throughout the county to help get impaired drivers off the road and educate the public about the importance of seatbelt use and properly installed child restraints. 

Though it has been a successful program in rural areas of the state for years, Operation Rolling Thunder was held for the first time in Henry County last fall.  It was so successful, that it was brought back this year, with plans to hold it biannually, said Lt. Scott Gray who presides over Henry County Police Special Operations, including the H.E.A.T. Unit.

Over the course of the two-day operation, 313 citations were issued, and 82 arrests were made, including 31 DUIs, 30 for driving on a suspended license, eight narcotics related arrests, and two wanted persons located.  Other citations included 46 for not wearing a seatbelt and 84 for not properly restraining young children in car seats.  In addition, one stolen car was also recovered. 

The weekend’s activities were organized in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) and the Rolling Thunder Task Force.  The Henry County H.E.A.T. Unit was assisted throughout the two day operation by units from across the state, including Valdosta Police, Dekalb County Police, Clayton County Police, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Police, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Atlanta Police, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Hampton Police, McDonough Police, Monroe Police, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Dublin Police, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Duluth Police, and Marietta Police.

H.E.A.T. is designed to educate about, and enforce laws related to proper Safety Restraint usage for adults and children, laws governing speed enforcement, impaired and aggressive driving.  The Henry County H.E.A.T.
