The Henry County Board of Commissioners proclaimed the week of May 20 - 26, 2012 as Emergency Medical Services Week and issued a proclamation at Monday’s regular Commission meeting. The theme of this year’s EMS week is “More than a job, a calling.”
The proclamation read, in part, “the emergency medical services system consists of emergency physicians, nurses, medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators and others; and… the members of the Henry County Fire Department are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and…the members of the Henry County Fire Department engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills.”
“On behalf of the 271 EMTs and firefighter paramedics, I would like to thank you for the proclamation this morning and the recognition of EMS Week,” said Lacy. “Those folks are busy and will answer around 18,000 EMS calls this year, so I thank you for recognizing them.”
District I Commissioner, Warren Holder, had strong praise for Henry County’s Emergency Medical Services personnel.
“In my time sitting here on the Board, I have never received a negative comment about the professionalism and the care that the EMS workers have given the citizens throughout the county,” said Holder. “They need to know that and it means a lot.”
In related news, Commissioners approved acceptance of a grant from the Walmart Foundation for the Henry County Fire Department, to be used for the enhancement of training activities.
The $1,500 grant requires no match grant and is made possible through the generosity of three area Walmart stores, including the McDonough, Locust Grove and Hudson Bridge Road stores.
