Henry County Police Department Hosts Youth Leadership Program

For the second year, the Henry County Police Department is hosting a one-day Youth Leadership Program, to be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the HCPD Training Room. The program is under the direction of Captain James Burch of the Internal Affairs Division

The program is geared toward Henry County high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 and is open to both young men and young women who have demonstrated above-average academic standards by holding a 2.5 GPA or higher.

The Youth Leadership Program is part of the Henry County Police Community Outreach Program. Topics will include an overview of the Henry County Police Department, Internet Safety, tour of the Henry County Police Department, Gangs, K-9 Demonstration, Traffic Safety, Firearms Safety and Simulator, SWAT Demonstration, Crime Scene Analysis and more. The topics will be taught by Henry County Police Department staff members who are currently working in these fields.

Although the program is not limited to young people interested in a future career in law enforcement, interested candidates should possess a desire to gain knowledge of the criminal justice system, police organization and its functions, criminal law, as well as leadership skills and personal development. Upon successful completion of the program, the graduates will receive a
t-shirt and certificate.

To participate in the Youth Leadership Program, the candidate must submit an application with all the required signatures, complete an essay on “Why they wish to attend the Leadership Program”, and must have a 2.5 G.P.A. verified by their school counselor. The deadline for applications is April 16 and they may be emailed as an attachment to Captain Burch at jburch@co.henry.ga.us or dropped off or mailed to 108 S. Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253.
