Henry County Commission Proclaims Mr. and Miss Special Henry County Week

At the Henry County Board of Commissioners regular meeting this Tuesday, it proclaimed the week of June 22-28, 2009 as Mr. and Miss Special Henry County Week. In doing so, the Commissioners expressed their appreciation to the dozens of dedicated volunteers who work so hard to make programs like this to enrich the lives of our special needs population.  

The Mr. and Miss Special Henry County Pageant is a fundraising program for the non-profit organization of People First of Henry County. This organization was founded to promote fairness and equality for community members with disabilities and to provide meaningful social activities in order to help build their self-esteem. Another one of their missions is to raise public awareness in that the community recognizes people with special needs by accepting and focusing on their abilities rather than their disabilities.

The Pageant was founded in 2002 and has since enriched the lives of more than 200 special needs families. This year, the pageant will take place in the Henry County Performing Arts Center on June, 27 at 4:00 p.m. The Commissioners encourage citizens to attend this event and volunteer with this organization in hopes to enrich a life through the spirit of these extraordinary individuals.
