Sheriff Keith McBrayer
A Lifetime Dedicated to Serving Henry County Citizens
Keith McBrayer is a life-long Henry County resident who graduated from Henry County High School in 1975 before attending Clayton Junior College. As a youth he was involved in Scouting and was presented the Eagle Scout Award at age 16. He continued his involvement in scouts by participating in the Law Enforcement Explorer Program sponsored by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. As soon as he graduated from High School he was offered a job at the Sheriff’s Office. Even though he had already been accepted at Clayton Junior College he took the job and attended college at the same time.
Keith McBrayer has served the citizens of Henry County for over 30 years with the Sheriff’s Department which until 1991 provided all the Law Enforcement functions for Henry County. He began his career as a radio operator and in 1978 Keith graduated from the Clayton Regional Police Academy. As his career progressed he was awarded increasing responsibility and promotions. While serving as a Captain, Keith was Henry County’s first S.W.A.T. Team Commander. He has held the rank of Major for 18 years and served as Field Operations Commander.
Keith and his wife Susan have been married for 28 years and have two children; Laura and Tracy. The McBrayer’s are active members of Hampton United Methodist Church where Keith served as chair of the administrative board for many years.
Keith serves on the Board of Directors for Connecting Henry, Leadership Henry, and for Youth Leadership Henry.
In 2007, Keith announced his intention to run for Henry County Sheriff and won the primary without a run-off in July 2008. Keith was then elected Sheriff with a victory in the General Election in November. He graduated from the Georgia Sheriff’s Elect Academy in December 2008. Keith McBrayer has now been sworn in as Henry County’s 28th Sheriff and has begun in his new role as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of Henry County.
