Absentee voting is an easy and convenient way to vote in an election. Any eligible voter may request and vote an absentee ballot without
specifying a reason for their absence from the polling place on Election Day. If you will be away from Henry County on Election Day or are unable to go to the polls, or simply want to cast your ballot early, you may vote an absentee ballot by mail or in-person.
Absentee voting begins 21 days before a county, state, or federal election and 21 days before a municipal election. The voting schedule will vary for special elections.
This website will be updated before each election to keep you informed of the voting times and locations.
Applications for by-mail absentee ballots must be made in writing. You may click here to download an absentee ballot application or you may write a letter to apply for an absentee ballot. The letter must contain sufficient information for proper identification of the voter including:
- Your name
- Your birth date
- The address at which you are registered to vote
- The election(s) for which you are requesting ballots
- The address to which the ballots should be mailed
- The reason for requesting the ballot, if applicable
- A political party type for primary elections
- Your signature

YOU MUST SIGN THE APPLICATION
BEFORE YOU RETURN IT.
The last day this office may mail an absentee ballot to you is always on the Friday before the election. No absentee ballots can be mailed or voted in person the Monday before the election. The county election office must receive all absentee ballots before 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. Except, ballots received from military and overseas voters will be accepted up to 3 days after an election, if postmarked by Election Day.
In-person absentee voting is available at the county election office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday beginning approximately 45 days before an election for county, state and federal elections and 21 days before a municipal election. The voting time for special elections will vary. In-person voting ends at 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before the election.
Extended times and additional voting locations are also available throughout Henry county for some elections. In-person voting dates, times, locations and deadlines will be made available prior to each election.
In-person absentee voters must fill out and sign an application when they arrive to vote. In order to vote an absentee ballot in person, the voter must provide proper identification.
75+ Voters or Disabled Voters
Georgia law does not require a reason to vote an absentee ballot, however, the law does extend special privileges to voters who provide certain reasons. These reasons benefit voters who use them when they apply for absentee ballots and make absentee voting even more convenient.
Voters who indicate the reason of 75+ or Disabled on the absentee request are eligible to submit one annual absentee ballot application that will be used for all elections in the calendar year. These voters must indicate the desire to receive all ballots when submitting the application, otherwise a separate application must be submitted for each election. Except, a separate application for an absentee ballot is always required for the presidential preference primary and special elections.
Military and Overseas Voters
The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) requires states to allow certain groups of citizens to register and vote absentee in elections for Federal offices. U.S. citizens may vote in the state where they last resided immediately prior to departing the United States, even though many years have passed and the intent to return to that state may not be certain.
Each uniformed and overseas voter who submits an absentee ballot request will receive an absentee ballot through the next two regularly scheduled general elections for federal office.
The Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) is a form provided by federal law to permit members of the U.S. armed forces and merchant marines, their dependents, and U.S. citizens abroad to register to vote and request their absentee ballot by mail.
