Henry County Probate Court
Kelley S. Powell is the Probate Judge of Henry County. She assumed the office in January 2006 following the death of the Honorable Del Buttrill. She won a special election in November 2006, making her the first female attorney to be elected to a judgeship in the county. She was re-elected to serve an additional 4 years as the Probate Judge in 2008 and 2012. Judge Powell currently serves as the President of the Council of Probate Court Judges. She is also a member of the Constitutional Officers’ Association of Georgia, Judicial Council Executive Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Training Council Committee and the Judicial Council Policy and Legislative Committee.
Judge Powell received a Bachelor's Degree in History and Political Science from Wesleyan College, cum laude, in 1989. She received her Juris Doctorate from Mercer University in 1992.
Judge Powell was born in Hampton, Georgia to Tommy and Gayle Smith. She has been a lifelong resident of Henry County. She is married to Todd Powell and they have 2 children, Reid and Jessie. The Powell’s are members of the McDonough United Methodist Church.
