Major Joe Jackson
 Joe
B. Jackson, Jr. began his law enforcement career in 1974 with
the GBI as a Special Agent. As a Special Agent he investigated
crimes against person, including homicide, aggravated assault,
child abuse, robbery & sex crimes. He conducted fugitive
apprehensions and illegal drug investigations. While in his
assignment he received his certification as a Police Instructor
in Narcotics, Observation and Description, and Firearms Training.
In 1984, Major Jackson was assigned to a position responsible
for 40 undercover Narcotics Agents. In 1985, he was promoted
to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the GBI Regional Investigative
Office in Dublin, GA. In 1996 he was in charge of the Regional
Investigative Office in Thomaston, Ga. In this assignment
he was responsible for the largest population outside the
Metro Atlanta area covering 13 counties.
In 2003, Major Jackson was promoted to Inspector in charge
of 6 Regional Offices. In June of 2003, he was appointed by
the Georgia Homeland Security Director along with 4 other
State Government Agencies to be in charge of the development
and implementation of public safety procedures for the G8
Summit held at Sea Island, Ga. These efforts coordinated the
actions of over 11,056 public safety personnel from 136 agencies
that were directly involved in the operational theatre.
Major Jackson attended the University of Georgia receiving
a Bachelor of Science in Sociology in 1974. He received his
Masters of Public Administration Degree from Columbus State
University in 2002. Major Jackson has attended many Law Enforcement Training classes
totaling over 2300 hours that included legal issues, criminal
investigation, special operations, management and leadership.
On September 2, 2008 Major Jackson was hired by the Henry County
Police Department as the Criminal Investigations Division
Commander.
