K-9 Unit

Henry County Police K-9 Unit

The K-9 Unit currently consists of one Sergeant and four (4) officers who have each been assigned a canine “partner”. Five (5) of the six (6) current canines are dual purpose dogs that are trained in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, tracking, article/area searches, building searches and handler protection. The sixth K-9 is only trained in narcotics detection. As well as working the streets of Henry County, this sixth K-9 is used as a community relations tool and gives K-9 demonstrations to children at area schools and civic groups. The goal of the K-9 Unit is to diminish criminal activity by utilizing traffic enforcement and criminal patrol techniques on Interstate 75 and on Henry County’s highways and surface streets. The K-9 Unit also provides assistance to all other divisions within the police department as well as other law enforcement agencies who need the use of a K-9.
