Parks & Recreation
The mission of Henry County Special Olympics is to provide a variety of Olympic-type sports and athletic competition year-round for all mentally challenged school aged children and adults, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes, and the community.
For school ages through adult, we offer events such as softball, track & field, long-distance running, soccer, volleyball, basketball, alpine skiing, tennis, motor activities, roller skating, floor hockey, bowling, bocce, power lifting, figure skating, swimming, and more.
Special Olympics Henry County is proud to have received a donation from the Resurgens Charitable Foundation to help support our two softball teams heading to Oklahoma on September 20th, 2012. This year we are able to take two teams to the National Tournament, and we are so appreciative of the donation!
Local Competitions are held in Henry County year round; Area Competitions are seasonal and held Summer & Winter; State Competitions are held in the Summer, Fall, and Winter; International Competitions are held every 4 years.
