Internal Affairs Division

The Internal Affairs Division is responsible for investigating allegations of employee misconduct, both internal and from outside sources or citizen complaints. They ensure compliance with the department’s rules and regulations, state and federal law and the Constitution of the United States as assigned by the Chief of Police or Deputy Chief of Police. This is to ensure investigative action when members conduct themselves improperly while also protecting members from un-warranted complaints pursuant to discharge of official duties. Investigations are conducted in a fair and impartial manner and all employees and witnesses are treated with consideration and respect.

The Internal Affairs Division is comprised of a Division Commander, an Investigative Sergeant, a Recruiting/Background Sergeant, and an Administrative Assistant.

The Division Commander, Captain Jim Burch, is responsible for coordinating, assigning and overseeing internal investigative operations.

The Investigative Sergeant, Mike Ireland, is assigned investigations by the Division Commander and acts as Assistant PIO in the absence of Major Bolton. He also assists in background/recruiting.

The Recruiting/Background Sergeant, Rene Swanson, is responsible for recruitment and background investigations, and serves as the backup for Open Records requests in the event the Administrative Assistant is unavailable.

The Administrative Assistant handles the open records requests and secretarial duties.
