Henry County Citizen’s Academy (HCCA)

The Henry County Citizen’s Academy is a free, eight week program that is designed to help inform and improve participants’ knowledge about day-to-day operations throughout the county government. Each Thursday evening, participants will meet for approximately two hours to get a hands on look at how services from areas such as Financial Services, Administrative Support, Public Works, Public Safety, and the courts within Henry County are provided.

Each week, participants will learn specific duties and services provided by each of these areas along with additional departments within the local government. Ultimately, the goal of the academy is to help citizens to better understand the functions of the government in their community and to help develop a stronger connection within the community as a whole.

Throughout the program, participants are encouraged to ask questions, which will help promote an open line of communication between the community and the government. Citizens also are encouraged to become more involved in local community events, and the academy hopes to help citizens make informed decisions with regards to their government.

The upcoming citizen’s academy will be held Thursday evenings, starting on September 13, 2018 and going through November 8, 2018. There will be no class on September 20 due to the fall break for the Henry County schools. There will be a graduation ceremony the last evening of class. Classes will be held at the county administration building located at 140 Henry Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253; however, some classes may be held partially or fully off-site at another county facility. On these evenings, transportation from the administration building will be provided.

The requirements for the academy are as follows:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must live or work in Henry County
  • Must be clear of any prior felony arrests
  • Must be clear of any misdemeanor arrests within 6 months of the application

The deadline to submit applications and consent forms is August 17, 2018. They must be completed and returned with original signatures either in person or by mail to:

Students selected for the academy will be notified accordingly. Any applicants not selected will be placed on a waiting list, and will be notified in the future of any available openings for future classes.
