McDonough, GA (Sept. 7, 2017) - A Henry County judge sentenced an Ellenwood man to life in prison today for repeatedly raping his wife while holding her captive for more than nine hours.
Superior Court Judge Arch McGarity sentenced Michael Hamilton today to two life sentences on charges of rape and aggravated sodomy. In addition, he was sentenced to 10 years for false imprisonment, five years for terroristic threats and 12 months in prison for simple battery – the maximum on each charge. All of the sentences will run concurrent.
The sentence came after the victim asked for the maximum punishment. "It was like being in a torture chamber with a stranger," the victim told the judge today.
The jury returned the guilty verdict against Hamilton on Aug. 17 after hearing audio recordings of the attack. During the trial, the victim testified that Hamilton held a gun to her head and sword to her throat while he sexually assaulted her inside an Ellenwood home in September 2014.
