McDonough, GA (Nov. 20, 2017) - A man was sentenced to life without parole today after a jury found him guilty of committing a deadly home invasion in McDonough.

A Henry County jury returned guilty verdicts today against Joseph Lyons, 31, on charges of murder, aggravated assault, home invasion and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.

The jury found Joseph Lyons and his cousin Tony Lyons stormed an apartment in Sable Chase in November 2015 and opened fire. The homeowner returned fire, striking and killing Tony Lyons. One of the residents of the apartment, Frederick Jackson, was also found dead in a field behind the complex.

The jury heard testimony that Joseph Lyons, of Griffin, and Tony Lyons, of McDonough, were looking to rob one of the residents, who had recently cashed in a $50,000 pension.

“This was a senseless crime that left two men dead and forced two other men to move after their home was sprayed with bullets,” Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo said. “The verdict shows that our community will not stand for this type of violence.”
