Commercial Permit Process
If this is a new site, please see Development Permit Requirements.
- (Recommended, but optional) E-mail Barbara Crittenden or call (770) 288-6319 to schedule a pre-review meeting. This meeting provides you with the opportunity to present the proposed structure, business and work involved to all of the pertinent agencies in order to ascertain the issues or concerns surrounding this work.
- Submit 6 sets of plans and these forms below to the Building Department

Additionally, you will need to submit the following documentation:
- Water Release letter (HCWSA, City of Stockbridge or City of Hampton as applicable)
- Septic letter from Henry County Environmental Health Department. (If applicable)
- Contractor’s current year business license
- Contractor’s current state license
- Company, Qualifying Agent or Individual
- Type of License MUST match the named individual’s relationship to Contracting Company
Plans will be routed to the following agencies:
When the review is complete, each department sends the plans back stamped approved or with corrections. By state law, we have up to 10 business days to review these plans.
Once approved, a pre-construction meeting will be scheduled. At this meeting, all of the pertinent agencies will collect fees, make known their inspection requirements and give contact names and numbers as well as answer any questions you may have at that point. With all fees paid and papers in order, you will be issued a building permit. Your Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Contractor will need to apply for separate permits which will be attached to your Building permit.
- Contact Henry County Water and Sewerage Authority at (678) 583-4500 to obtain a release. They will send the Building Inspector the release needed to issue the Certificate of Completion (C.C.) or Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.) via e-mail.
- Contact your Building Inspector for all required inspections (made known at the pre-construction meeting).
- Contact the Fire Marshal Inspector for all required inspections (made known at the pre-construction meeting).
- If a Development Permit was required for your permit, contact your site inspector for all required inspections.
- When all requirements are met, the Henry County Water and Sewerage Authority will send the clearance letter to the Building Inspector
- When all requirements are met, the Development Inspector will submit a clearance letter for the site.
- When all requirements are met, the Fire Marshal’s office will print the C.C or C.O. and send it to the Building Inspector.
- When all Building Inspector’s requirements are met and all release letters obtained, the Building inspector will have the C.C. or C.O. signed and will contact you so you can pick it up.
- At this time you may take your C.O. to the Department of Occupational Tax to apply for your Business License.
