2012-2013 Rabies Report
208 animal bites were processed from November 2012 to October 2013 (13 less than the previous year.) Of those:
172 executed 10-day animal quarantines, 83 shelter quarantines and 89 home quarantines.
27 other animals unavailable for testing where the victims were advised to seek medical advice on whether to be treated for possible rabies.
- 164 dog bites
- 43 cat bites
- 1 wild animal to human attack
33 animals were submitted for testing. Out of that number:
HCACC had 3 positive cases of rabies, including 2 raccoons and 1 fox.
- 9 were pets
- 5 were wild
- 19 were stays
Three 1-mile area rabies quarantines were issued, with notice to the affected community by way of posted signs, the county website and through rabies alerts via the news media. The three areas included Chafin Drive in Kelleytown, the Bent Arrow subdivision in Stockbridge and John Gardner Drive in McDonough.
